Paltinis - Health Resort

Touristic resort situated at 32 km North - West from Sibiu, Paltinis is the highest (1440 m altitude), and the oldest resort in Romania..
It was founded by the Transylvanian Carpathian Society (S.K.V.) in 1894. From the initial nucleus of villas, the resort still preservs Casa turistilor (The House of the Tourists, 1894), Casa medicilor (The House of the Doctors, 1895), Sala Monaco (Monaco Hall, 1898) and another villa, historic monuments.
The mountainous climate, with ozonized air, makes the resort an important place to cure asthenia, Basedow illness, lungs illness consequences, over - working, benign hyperthyroidism.
The layer of snow resists about six months a year, being Paltinis visiting card for winter sports. The skiing track on Oncesti Mountain has a telechair, a teleski, a baby – lift.
At Schit (Hermitage), near the wooden church, was buried Constantin Noica, the philosopher (1907 - 1987). The house where he spent his last years, Noica House ravels more of his life and work.
Its beautiful location, fresh air, and numerous hiking opportunities, have made Paltinis a favorite for everyone.
The resort includes 4 hotels, 6 chalets and 17 villas for tourists, many restaurants, bars and shops.
A large residential area was developed in the last couple of years.
Paltinis is a starting point for many touristic directions in the Mountains Cindrel and Lotru.
The red-dot trail leads northwest toward Cheile Cibinului (5 Km)
The red-cross-red trail fellows an unpaved road for past of the way to Vf. Batrâna (Old Woman Peak), at 1911 m.
Red-strip trail for 25 Km to the Cindrel peak (2244 m) is the more difficult one, but more visually rewarding experience.
Ski slopes arranged for alpine skiing:
Oncesti I, for beginners and difference of level 241 m, average incline 22%, length 1150 m, breadth 35 m with cable transport for skiers;
Oncesti II, of medium difficulty and difference of level 138 m, average incline 38%, length 450 m, breadth 25-35m with cable transport for skiers;
